Meeting Borjomi and Bakuriani Eparchy clergymen

On February 19, by “Union 21st Century” was organized a meeting with the Borjomi and Bakuriani Eparchy clergymen. In the meeting participated Borjomi and Bakuriani Metropolite Seraphime, the clergymen of the Eparchy, representatives from local self-governing bodies, and active parishioners. Before the present audience came out with speeches “Union 21st Century” programs supervisor Paata Gachechiladze and the NATO and EU informational center’s deputy director Tamar Medulashvili.
The meeting was opened by Mitropolite Seraphime and Paata Gachechiladze who also introduced the participants and discussed the goals of the meeting.
The Programs Supervisor of “Union 21st Century” Paata Gachechiladze introduced to the present audience a presentation about State-Church relation models of EU member countries and important issues concerned with the legal aspect of the relationship. Particular interest was drawn by the issues of the Bulgarian and Romanian Orthodox churches’ state-church relations and their legislative regulation. It must be mentioned that these materials were processed and presented in Georgian language to the audience for the first time and they will be included in the book “The Orthodox Church in the EU member countries”, which will be published by the “Union 21st Century” in March. Traditionally the diversity which exists in the EU between the State and Religious Unions was highlighted.
Mrs. Tamar Medulashvili went over the current Georgian-European integration process, its political, economic, and social significance for our country and its population. The discussion included the factors, which are hindering this process, stereotypes and myths, which are circulating in our society and the Russian propaganda’s role in implementation of these stereotypes.

The meeting was held in an unofficial environment. The speakers answered the question posed by the members of the audience. A discussion was held. The members of the audience, according to tradition, were given the opportunity to present the issues, which interested them the most and on which the “Union 21st Century” is ready to provide detailed information.
The members of the audience were handed a book “State and Church in the EU member countries”, in electronic as well as printed format.

The meeting was held in the city of Borjomi in the hotel “Crown Plaza Borjomi”.
